Zone Defense: Creating the Ultimate Home Zones for Back to School

Summer is closing out, and it is time to get ourselves and our homes back into a daily routine. our best advice to being prepared is by implementing zones in your high traffic areas.

The back to school rush can become a source of stress (and mess) when attempting to get everything done on the fly. Making lunches, laying out clothes, getting a halfway nutritious meal prepared in time for dinner… the daily task list is long, but it is also manageable! In an effort to simplify your routines, we swear by a zone defense- incorporating zones throughout the home to save yourself time and energy.

Zones are areas where activities can happen. the most common kitchen zones we see are:

Appliances zone, baking and cooking, coffee and tea, entertaining, everyday and lifestyle, kids and lunch.

We will devote an entire blog to full home zones soon, but this time, we want to focus solely on what will make the ‘back to school’ season a more seamless transition from the lazy days of summer. Stay tuned.

incorporate these 3 zones in your home

command station

create a central location for important daily items accessible to the entire family

what to include:

keep track of papers coming and going

pen & pad to make a quick note to remember to grab those cupcakes for the class party

a spot to drop your keys

lunch prep station

Make lunch prep quick and simple by having all the tools you need at your fingertips

consider how the kiddos can help and access

What to include:

drawer dividers for snack bags, sharpie, utensils

open up space in a drawer or cabinet in the same zone for lunch bags and lunch tupperware

medicine station

Be ready for anything the day or season throws at you

what to include:

keep a stock of medications on hand– we suggest grouping by symptom stomach, head, allergy, etc.
