We are so grateful to be considered a go-to resource for organizational solutions but we’re excited to bring more expert advice from all fields regarding the home to our community of followers. We’re thrilled to introduce a new series: Straight From the Experts! And we could not be more excited to introduce you to Oyster Creek Studios this month!
Oyster Creek Studios is sharing exclusive insights into topics such as what size your living room rug should really be, how to choose the correct lighting for you space, what you need to know before you pick your next paint color, and clearing up confusion on mixing textures in your space! Here’s what they said:
Tip #1 - Less is more!
Don’t over style – don’t over decorate your spaces. Keep your spaces clutter free and style your spaces with a purpose. For example – coffee tables. Anchor your coffee table with an oversized tray and with-in your tray, stack coffee table books and have a fun object on top of your books. Have fresh flowers or something green always on your coffee table. We love an OCS moss bowl on coffee tables! Keep your TV remotes in the tray/basket on your coffee table. You don’t have to have every wall space or countertop surface decorated. Less is more!
Tip #2 - Go big on rug sizes
The bigger your rug is, the larger your room feels. Rule of thumb for your living rug – majority (if not all) of your furniture should be completely on the rug. We offer great rugs in our collection in which you can customize the rug size to fit your space!

Tip #3 - Layer in lighting
Layer in different lighting elements in your home. Don’t just have can lights – add in sconces, floor lamps, table lamps, and library lights to your rooms. This is an easy way to elevate your space. Lamps and library lights help set the mood and bring in a cozy element.

Tip #4- Mix and match textures
We love incorporating natural fiber rugs, rattan furniture and décor, velvets and linens in our upholstery, and different wood tones and metals in furniture pieces. The key is mixing it. Don’t just have one type of fabric or material. Layer in all the different elements.
I love to mix patterns in my upholstery pieces and pillows. In our pillow line with Little Design Co we have large scale prints that pair really well with small scale prints. The key is – mixing them together!
Graceful Spaces Tip: We love bringing in mix and match textures, especially into pantries! No pantry is the same. When designing your pantry consider the rest of your home. Bring in textures, accents, and consider the mood you want in your pantry to compliment the rest of your home!
Some examples:
Dark & Moody: Black colors, metal textures, and sharp straight edges.
Coastal: White colors, cane or hyacinth textures, and acrylic.
Farmhouse: Deep brown and red colors, silver metals, and glass.
Old World: Gold and bronze colors, deep orange accents, and glass with bold lids.
Light & Bright: White colors, bamboo textures, and acrylic.

Tip #5- Paint Color
Dare to say - my least favorite color to design with is a cool grey tone! I love using SW snowbound white in primary living and kitchen spaces. Walls, ceilings, and trim we typically use SW snowbound white. The key is changing the finish. Satin finish on trim work, eggshell finish on the walls, and a flat finish on the ceiling (but all the same color)! Pack a punch and use a saturated color in office spaces, powder bathrooms, sitting rooms, and bedrooms.

Tip #6- Furniture Pieces
Invest in your furniture pieces that you use every day. Sofa, living room chairs, nightstands, coffee table, breakfast room table. Aryn launched Oyster Creek Collection for both interior designers and consumers. She believes beautiful, well-tailored custom furniture should be accessible to everyone.
Oyster Creek Collection consists of a full upholstery line and one of a kind burl wood, high gloss paint, white oak, and walnut pieces!
ABOUT OYSTER CREEK STUDIOS
Oyster Creek Studios is a full-service interior design studio furnishing large-scale homes from one room to an entire home, as well as new construction, and renovation projects. At OCS, we strive to design livable and elevated spaces for everyday life. We work with families to create the home of their dreams—ones that are life-filled, bright, clean, and refined. Some call it livable luxury, we call it the “OCS look.” Aryn Guillory, owner and lead designer of Oyster Creek Studios, began her interior design business in 2017 and just a few short years later, she and her growing team have since completed projects across the state of Texas.
