The Battery Beauty Home Tour
Stretching along the Charleston harbor, The Battery is a historic promenade featuring gardens, parkland, and some of the city’s most beautiful homes.
Traditional homes in Charleston were built on long, narrow lots. Today’s homeowners have the challenge of blending historic charm with modern organizational solutions that best use the space.
That’s where we come in. Working with our clients, we found creative ways to give every space a purpose without feeling crowded.
Creativity in Small Spaces
The Battery Beauty was a perfect opportunity to stretch our creativity, especially in the pantry. To accommodate the unique shape of the shelves and tight floorplan, we delegated certain zones—supplements, baking, and coffee—to the main kitchen area. This gave us plenty of space to play with pantry staples, which were stored in woven baskets and see-through bins. We decanted dry goods and other cooking ingredients in clear canisters from iDesign and The Home Edit, categorizing them by shelf.
A Culinary Chef’s Dream
How do you create the perfect kitchen for a professional chef? Customize every inch of the space for the way they like to cook. This meant creating distinct zones for our client's baking, prep work, and cooking. We set up our baking zone on the counter, using gorgeous glass jars as functional decor to store go-to ingredients like sugar and flour.
In the upper cabinets, we sourced clear pantry bins from The Home Edit, with inserts to divide items into micro-categories for easy access. Plates and other things that didn't fit on shelves were strategically placed in drawers. To save space, we hung kitchen tools on cabinet doors, keeping complementary items together for a seamless cooking experience
An Entertainer’s Secret Weapon
Our clients love entertaining, so we prioritized guest-friendly zones in the kitchen, laundry room, and bath. A coffee station fits neatly into the hallway near the back porch, with drawer space for mugs and accessories.
In the bathroom, we reclaimed the closet our clients had used for shoes, filling it with bath essentials, first aid items, and a hospitality zone for guests.
PRO TIP: When planning stations, try to match the zone with your natural routines. We set up a coffee bar by the back porch, a go-to place for our clients to sit while entertaining.
