Graceful Donations
When items no longer serve your family or home…
Letting go of unused items in your life is an amazing way to create a home that supports your unique lifestyle and goals. If you feel led to donate new or gently used items, please refer to the following list of community programs. We have done our research to compile a list of some of our favorite organizations that are happy to accept your donations- some will even pick up!
If you still have that one item you aren’t too sure what to do with…
“What do I do with” is a page on the City of Austin website that allows you to type in an item to determine how to properly donate, recycle or get rid of it.
If you have an entire house worth of items to donate or are simply short on time, but you want your items to make a positive impact- we recommend contacting college hunks hauling junk. they will schedule a pickup of your donation items and purposefully move them to their next home.
Organized Donating
We recommend adding a permanent area in your home designated for donation items. Whether you keep one labeled bin or basket by the garage door or one in every room- have one somewhere! When the bin is full- it’s time for a drop off!
Ask yourself:
Do I love it? need it? or even use it anymore?
Would I spend money on this today?
Letting go can be difficult- sometimes when releasing sentimental items, we want to see the person who will love them next, but due to privacy issues, this will not always be the case. By considering the proper channel for your donation, you can trust that your gracious gift will go directly to the hands (or feet) that need it most.
If you’re a recent client and would like some individualized assistance making some tough decisions - ask us about a refresh! We would love to schedule a one-on-one refresh session with one of our organizers to polish up that area that needs a bit more attention. We are also happy to assist with sorting through your donations, seasonal closet changes, unpacking services, etc.
Lastly, don’t forget your receipt! Remember, the fair market value of every item you donate can count toward a tax deduction.
