The Heavenly Houston Project
We might call Austin and Charleston home, but we’re always ready to hit the road! Welcome to The Heavenly Houston, our latest travel project—and Signature Home Organizing project—in beautiful Houston, TX. Led by founders Christina and Rebecka, our talented travel team of organizers worked hard to create a welcoming, efficient, and beautiful space for our clients and their children to call home.
The home was designed by the Houston-based interior design company Oyster Creek Studios, and we had the pleasure of collaborating on-site with owner and lead designer Aryn Guillory to create elevated solutions that fit the bright and refined aesthetic of the home. We love the attention to detail Aryn and her team brought to every corner of The Heavenly Houston.
The main goal for our clients was to create family-friendly zones that would simplify daily routines and keep everybody on the same page. As hybrid homeschoolers, the family needed systems that promoted efficiency and simplicity, where every member was empowered to do their part. We love making the organization process fun, accessible, and sustainable, so this was truly a match made in heaven!
If you’ve followed past tours, you may remember that our process involves an incredible amount of planning and prep work to ensure our time on-site runs smoothly. For this project, we created custom mood boards for each space in the home, using the information we had gathered about our clients’ aesthetics, preferences, daily routines, and family goals. Once we had a firm vision in place, our team got to work selecting, ordering, and delivering hundreds of household essentials, functional decor, and organizational items to create turnkey systems and setups the family could start using from day one.
HERE’S WHAT WE DID:
Worked with designer Aryn Guillory to source organization items and functional decor that fit the family home’s elegant and clean aesthetic.
Styled and streamlined the cubbies in the mudroom.
Curated a backstock and defined pet, laundry, and grab-and-go spaces in the laundry room.
Maximized storage space for everyday cooking and special-occasion entertaining in the kitchen.
Created defined snacking, storage, and coffee zones in the pantry.
The Mudroom
Dreaming of a relaxed morning routine? Read on!
We love the clean design of this mudroom. The best way to keep a high-traffic space like this one tidy is through simple systems where everything has a home. These lockers pass the test with designated spaces for shoes, coats, and tech. Each has a dock station with chargers for iPads and phones and a single set of hooks for in-season coats. On the shelving above, we placed boxes for seasonal overflow, making sure to choose ones that fit the overall look of the space. We also added hooks to the inside of each door for hat storage.
The Laundry Room
This might be our favorite laundry feature ever...
The laundry room in the Heavenly Houston blends classic Graceful Spaces organization with unique features designed to help streamline daily tasks like laundry, feeding the dogs, and cleaning. The laundry room was a central hub for all cleaning supplies and backstock, so making things easy to find and keeping track of what items needed refilling was important. We labeled acrylic storage containers and turntables in the upper shelving to keep supplies visible and tidy.
The lower drawers were used to store necessities like batteries and tape. In the cleaning closet, we used hooks to maximize wall space and ensure things felt uncluttered and easy to grab and go.
the pet zone
We created pet and laundry zones in the large laundry room cabinet, stacking supplies and dog food on the right side and our go-to laundry hampers on the left. The built-in laundry shoot on the top left is a really cool feature in this cabinet. Once the basket was full, our clients could swap it out with the one below and have a fresh hamper ready.
PRO TIP: We love how functional decor can transform a space and simplify routines. Decanting heavy-use items like laundry pods (pictured) into a beautiful jar or canister is a great way to blend convenience with style.
The Kitchen
If you’re still doing laps in the kitchen getting dinner ready—this one's for you.
The kitchen in this home is gorgeous—a perfect example of the light, bright, and clean look Oyster Creek Studios is known for. We used strategic zone planning throughout the space to group things and complement our clients’ routines and preferences.
EVERYDAY STORAGE
We used two spacious upper cabinets to store everyday essentials and dishware. On the left, we used acrylic containers for medicine, breaking it down into categories like supplements, cold medications, allergy medications, and more. We also grouped medications by user, something our clients appreciated! Below the everyday cabinets, we designated the top drawer as a drop zone drawer.
PRO TIP: Tired of those last-minute sweeps for sunglasses and keys before you hit the road? A drop zone drawer is a great way to make tidying things part of your natural routine. Keep it close to your main exits and entrances in the home to help reinforce the habit.
UNDER THE SINK
Sink storage tends to be a trouble zone for clients, who often use it as a catch-all for cleaning supplies and kitchen necessities. To avoid clutter, we intentionally pared down the contents to kitchen-specific cleaning items, using labeled containers, drawers, and turntables to make things easy to grab. We used an Affix wall mount organizer on the door, one of our favorite ways to save space.
PRO TIP: While storing all your cleaning supplies under the sink may be tempting, we suggest keeping your main stock in the laundry room instead. Only store what you use in the kitchen underneath the sink to reduce clutter and make things easier to find.
Entertainment Space
What a picture-perfect space! Most of our work in the entertainment area involved giving every entertainment item its place without cluttering anything. To keep things purposeful, we edited through everything to ensure they used it.
PRO TIP: We like to keep counter decor simple and thoughtful. While it might be tempting to use every inch of a zone, leaving surfaces clear (like the entertainment zone countertop pictured) maintains a clean aesthetic and offers plenty of prep space as needed for events.
The Pantry
Are you guilty of wasting food because it wasn’t in plain sight? Let’s fix that.
The pantry in this home is stunning and a masterclass in zone planning. We got super intentional and strategic with our placements during the organization process to ensure this space would be as family-friendly and convenient as possible.
Food and Snack Storage
The pantry in the Heavenly Houston is divine—so bright and spacious. We used lots of wood-tone and acrylic containers throughout the space for everyday essentials (check out these gorgeous new canisters from Williams Sonoma!), pairing them with can risers and turntables to make shopping the pantry a breeze. Zone planning is handy here—our main goal was to ensure our clients wouldn't have to open up two separate cabinets to get to the same category of items and ingredients.
We stored snacks in the pantry drawers, making them accessible for kids. Our team decanted loose snacks into labeled, see-through containers and lined up packaged snacks inside adjustable drawer dividers.
PRO TIP: Need help organizing items of different sizes? We love using expandable drawer dividers for non-cookie-cutter items like snack pouches and bars. It's a great way to keep things together while still maximizing space.
Coffee Bar
We made a beautiful coffee zone in the upper pantry cabinets near the sink, using functional decor from Williams Sonoma on the countertop directly below to store additional items. We love these canisters, which come in lots of different sizes. It was really fun for our team to build a functional coffee zone with little extra touches that brought pops of character and beauty to the space.
PRO TIP: Functional decor should be as beautiful as it is useful, adding joy to daily routines and making every item placed on shelves or counters look intentional. Some of our favorite places to shop for functional decor are Crate & Barrel, Williams Sonoma, and Megan Molten.
Active Zones
Our clients have a busy and active family, so plenty of grab-and-go storage for water bottles and supplements was a must! In the supplements cabinet, we stored decanted ingredients in tall acrylic containers, keeping overflow in woven bins on the upper shelves. We stacked water bottles to maximize vertical space, keeping lids and straws in a drawer directly below to avoid mismatched or missing parts.
PRO TIP: When zone planning, placement is crucial. We kept related items (like water bottles, lids, and supplements) near each other to reduce the time spent running around the pantry.
