The Graceful Spaces Kiawah Dreams Home Tour

JOIN CHRISTINA AND THE CHARLESTON TEAM AS WE OUTFIT A GORGEOUS VACATION HOME ON KIAWAH ISLAND FOR MULTIPLE FAMILIES AND THEIR GUESTS.

Our latest home tour is a masterclass in getting everybody on the same page. This Kiawah Island retreat is owned by a couple that rents to a larger family every summer. With different needs, organization styles, and preferences across the board, creating a space where everyone felt at home was a fun challenge.

HERE’S WHAT WE DID:

  • Edited and categorized the current contents of the house room by room

  • Refreshed older dinnerware, kitchen tools, and household supplies

  • Curated organizational products to fit the aesthetic of our clients’ remodel

  • Created zones in the pantry, kitchen, and laundry room for easy use by residents and guests

  • Outlined a stock list for easy upkeep all year long

  • Added extra labels to ensure everyone can participate in the upkeep

On the Same Page

Bringing a household together through organization is one of the most satisfying parts of our job. In this home, we needed to balance:

  • The Owners—a couple with opposite organizational preferences and styles

  • The Summer Renters—the family they rent to annually throughout the summer season

  • Guests—anyone staying throughout the year (both families are big entertainers)

Creating systems that everyone knows how to use cuts down on upkeep and makes spaces a joy to use. As we developed zones in the home, our Charleston organizers worked to find a happy medium, thinking through the use case for every drawer and cupboard.

We had a blast curating household essentials and functional decor that fit with the newly remodeled spaces in the Kiawah Dreams. Our Fresh Start service is the perfect solution if you’re looking for someone to identify and source the ideal products for your new home or addition!

Everyday Essentials

We start every kitchen project with a high-level overview of how clients will use the space. This meant dedicated zones for cooking, baking, and entertaining for the Kiawah Dreams.

During the editing process, we identified duplicates or worn-out items and sourced replacements that fit the feel of the newly remodeled space. There were only three upper cabinets in the kitchen, so our organizers got creative and strategic, using spaces like island drawers and lower cupboards for storage.

Originally, baking items were in five different spots. We shifted the baking zone to an area near the sink, purchasing extra measuring cups and spatulas to avoid interruptions like wash breaks while cooking.

To make the most of the space under the sink, we used turntables and iDesign Linus deep bins. Microcategories kept things neat and separated to avoid leaks or spills.

PRO TIP: Create a “return to owner” basket or cupboard in your home, especially if you plan to host guests. This is a lost-and-found style space you can clear out periodically, keeping your organization system intact.

Perfect for Guests

Both families love to entertain, so spaces and supplies for hosting were a must. We separated everyday and special occasion dinnerware and cooking tools in the kitchen.

In the pantry, platters were stacked on their side to maximize vertical space on the upper shelves. Labels throughout make it easy for guests to find their way around the space.

We created a zone with household essentials like bandaids, writing tools, and batteries for easy access in the laundry room.

Pro Tip: Try to be intuitive with guest-friendly zones. For the Kiawah Dreams, that meant daily essentials in the laundry room and occasional-use items by the back door.

A Plentiful Pantry

If you’re familiar with our approach to creating the perfect pantry, you’ll remember that visibility is key. See-through canisters from The Home Edit make decanted ingredients simple to find, while dark wood risers from The Neat Method keep cans on display.

Occasional-use items have a home at the top of the pantry. Our organizers strategically placed turntables throughout to put all pantry contents within reach.

Pro Tip: Label everything. Upkeep is simple when you give items a home.

We sourced matching containers and dividers to complement the owners’ current collection of decanted spices. Small touches that streamline a space while seamlessly fitting the overall aesthetic truly make all the difference!
